Recticel Group’s acoustic materials used in NASA’s Artemis II-mission

Recticel Group reveals that its specialised acoustic solutions, developed by the US-based Soundcoat brand, were part of the historic NASA rocket launch of Artemis II.

The SLS rocket (Space Launch System) lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on 1 April for a 10-day mission around the Moon and will land back on Earth tomorrow 11 April. It was the first time humans have left Earth’s orbit in more than 50 years and the voyage took them further from Earth than anyone has ever been before.

Soundcoat components were used in the Launch Vehicle Stage Adapter (LVSA), the structural element between the core (fuel tank) and the Upper Stage (Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage and the crewed Orion capsule). The materials were specially engineered to control the internal acoustic environment of the LVSA in order to prevent resonance, reduce vibroacoustic loading, and protect critical propulsion and avionics systems during ascent.

Led by an experienced team of acoustic engineers, Soundcoat provides customised acoustic insulation solutions for equipment used in various sectors. Through advanced engineering capabilities and strong in-house expertise, it has earned a position at the forefront of acoustic innovation. It is extremely proud to have been involved in this NASA mission, which opens a new era of exploration for humanity.

Congratulations to the Artemis II crew and the whole team on this historic lunar mission. We wish them a safe and smooth return back to Earth.
