Surviving World War II Heroes to be Grand Marshals in the largest Memorial Day Parade in the nation alongside celebrities, dignitaries, active duty officers, and veterans of conflicts from WWII to present day
WASHINGTON / ACCESSWIRE / May 6, 2024 / Today, The American Veterans Center (AVC) announces the return of the National Memorial Day Parade, Presented by Boeing, on Constitution Avenue against the backdrop of the iconic monuments of the National Mall. The parade will commence at 2 pm on Monday, May 27th, 2024, preceded by musical performances starting at 1 pm. To honor the forthcoming 80th anniversary of ‘D-Day' on June 6th, the 2024 National Memorial Day Parade will be led by surviving heroes of World War II, representing the 16 million Americans who served and the 400,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice. Among them will be veterans of D-Day and the war in Europe, U.S. Navy and Marines of the Pacific, and veterans of ‘The Mighty 8th Air Force,' whose story was recently portrayed in Masters of the Air.
"Today, as we commence the one-month countdown to the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the AVC stands privileged to announce that heroes from the most pivotal moments of the 20th century will lead this year's parade," said AVC President Tim Holbert. "In the company of esteemed veterans spanning WWII, the Vietnam and Korean Wars, and contemporary conflicts, these individuals epitomize the enduring American ethos of service and sacrifice, all joining in recognition of their fallen brothers and sisters in arms, on the U.S. military's most sacred holiday."
The Parade is the largest Memorial Day event in the nation and serves as a moving timeline of American history, featuring historical re-enactors, military veterans, active duty personnel, and celebrities and entertainers who will be announced soon. Together, they honor and salute the men and women who sacrificed their lives for America.
"On behalf of The Boeing Company, we are honored to support this powerful tribute to fallen service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation," said Darrin Hostetler, Boeing Chief Compliance Officer and U.S. veteran. "We thank the American Veterans Center for its partnership and ongoing commitment to veterans."
For two decades, the Parade has drawn hundreds of thousands of attendees annually from across the nation, flooding the sidewalks of Constitution Avenue to get a glimpse of America's heroes. In addition to the live, in-person experience, the parade's television special will broadcast nationally through major network affiliates (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, CW) and worldwide on the American Forces Network, to reach a collective audience of more than 100 million households.
