Eiffage, member of the NSORe joint venture, wins the contract for a converter station for the NSC2 offshore grid connection project in Germany
Eiffage, through its Belgian subsidiary Smulders, created NSORe (Neptun Smulders Offshore Renewables) with Neptun Werft, part of the Meyer Werft group. NSORe is an equal joint venture dedicated to HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) offshore substation projects. NSORe, as part of a consortium with Siemens Energy, has just been awarded by 50Hertz, the transmission system operator in the north and east of Germany, the contract to build a 2-gigawatt converter station for the offshore grid connection project NSC2 (North Sea Connector 2).
Negotiations have also started for a second project of similar scale.
The project already awarded consists of an offshore platform and onshore station. The consortium is responsible for the complete implementation and turnkey handover of the facilities. This includes planning the overall system, procuring components, construction, installation onshore and offshore, and commissioning.
NSORe is responsible for the engineering and construction of both the topside – the main structure of the offshore platform, housing transformers, switchgear, and converters that transform alternating current into direct current – and the jacket foundation. Production will take place across facilities in Rostock and Vlissingen, supporting long-term industrial activity. Siemens Energy is responsible for the high-voltage elements, including the onshore station.
Commissioning of the NSC2 platform is scheduled for the end of 2034.
