Derichebourg Environnement and Vicat strengthen their cooperation to support industrial decarbonisation and the circular economy through their VALèreCO joint venture

• A partnership spanning more than thirty years, supporting the circular economy, industrial decarbonisation and regional reindustrialisation
• A new strategic project in the Grand Est region (France) representing an investment of nearly €7 million
• A facility that will ultimately produce 34,000 tonnes of Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) per year, primarily to supply Vicat’s Xeuilley cement plant

Paris / L'Isle-d'Abeau, September 2, 2026 – Derichebourg Environnement and Vicat are taking a new step forward in their industrial cooperation, strengthening a partnership that dates back to the early 1990s.

Historically associated through the company Valerco, recently renamed VALèreCO, the two groups have been working together in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region through Derichebourg Environnement’s subsidiary Purfer, which produces alternative fuels for Vicat’s Montalieu-Vercieu cement plant (Isère).

Based on a shared vision of the circular economy and the energy recovery of waste, their cooperation has demonstrated the relevance of a model combining recycling expertise with industrial know-how. Today, it is entering a new phase with the development of a major project in the Grand Est region.

VALèreCO, their jointly owned company, is therefore being strengthened to support a new industrial project dedicated to the production and energy recovery of Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF).

The project involves the construction of an SRF production unit in Pagny-sur-Meuse (Meuse). Representing an investment of nearly €7 million, the facility will ultimately produce 34,000 tonnes of SRF per year, primarily to supply Vicat’s Xeuilley cement plant (Meurthe-et-Moselle), which produces low-carbon cement. The Grand Est Region is supporting the project through its “Grand Est – Aide aux grandes entreprises” programme, as the project is considered strategic for the region. GIP Objectif Meuse, which supports initiatives aimed in particular at developing the local industrial base and energy-transition projects in the Meuse department, has been assisting the initiative for several months and will shortly consider the possibility of providing support for the project. This project illustrates the two partners’ shared ambition to accelerate industrial decarbonisation through local, circular and competitive solutions, transforming non-recyclable waste into alternative energy resources that can replace fossil fuels.

Industrial cooperation creating value for the region

Designed as a genuine local industrial ecology project, VALèreCO is based on short, local supply chains. The SRF will be produced less than 50 kilometres from where it is consumed, thereby reducing transportation while providing a sustainable outlet for all of the facility’s production.

This organisation makes it possible to:

• substantially reduce the landfilling of non-recyclable waste with high calorific value;
• replace fossil fuels with local, circular energy;
• contribute to France’s national targets for reducing fossil fuel consumption;
• strengthen the resilience of French industry’s energy supply.

A tangible lever for decarbonisation

SRF production is now a major lever for industrial decarbonisation. Through this long-term partnership, VALèreCO secures both the outlets for the SRF it produces and the energy supply of Vicat’s cement plant, thereby creating a sustainable and replicable industrial model.
