ABT SE cooperates with WiTricity on the wireless charging of e-cars
- Commercial launch planned for 2024 with the Volkswagen ID.4
- First aftermarket solution in Europe for wireless charging of electric vehicles
Kempten, 23 March 2023 – The ABT Group, a leading internationally positioned technology-driven automotive company in the fields of eMobility and refinement with a strong brand, is cooperating with WiTricity to offer aftermarket solutions for the wireless charging of electric vehicles in Europe. The wireless technology is to be available on the market from the beginning of 2024. First, the Volkswagen ID.4 will be equipped with the technology before other battery electric vehicles, such as the Volkswagen ID. Buzz and the Audi e-Tron GT, will also be fitted with this technology. ABT is thus further expanding its technology expertise in the field of electric and alternative drives. WiTricity is recognised as a market leader in the field of wireless charging of electric vehicles.
With the special magnetic resonance technology from WiTricity, electric cars can charge with the same speed and efficiency as at a plug-in charging station simply by parking over a charging pad. Both the ABT e-Line vehicles and the charging devices are compatible with the applications of other manufacturers. ABT is thus responding to the increasing demand in the field of electric mobility and the need of consumers for simple, efficient application options.
Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO of ABT SE: "Wireless charging is revolutionising the eMobility industry. Users of e-cars can thus easily and conveniently charge their car wirelessly. Wired charging in particular is seen as uncomfortable by many users of electric vehicles. We are now developing the first aftermarket solution in Europe together with our partner WiTricity. In this way, our combined competencies can support the market penetration of electric vehicles."
