Vulcan Energy Begins Production of First Lithium Chloride in Europe

Vulcan Energy Resources Limited announced the initiation of production for its first Lithium Chloride (LiCl) product at the Lithium Extraction Optimisation Plant (LEOP) in Landau, Germany. This marks a significant milestone as the first production of lithium chemicals from a local source in Europe. Vulcan's LEOP demonstrated a lithium extraction efficiency of over 90% using its Adsorption-type Direct Lithium Extraction (A-DLE) technology, aligning with results from lab and pilot plant operations.

This achievement is the result of more than three years of in-house piloting, with over 10,000 hours validating high lithium recovery rates and sustainable adsorbent use. Vulcan's process, leveraging A-DLE technology, contributes to 10% of the global lithium production, showcasing its viability in the Upper Rhine Valley Brine Field—home to Europe's largest lithium resource. This development paves the way for greener lithium production utilizing geothermal renewable energy, aiming to decarbonize lithium for electric vehicle batteries.
