Vulcan Energy Achieves Battery Quality Lithium Production in Europe

Vulcan Energy Resources Limited has announced the successful production of lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM) meeting battery quality standards in Europe. This marks the first fully integrated production process of battery-grade lithium chemicals on the continent. The production took place at Vulcan’s Central Lithium Electrolysis Optimisation Plant in Frankfurt, Germany.

The LHM is produced by processing high-purity lithium chloride extracted from brine using Vulcan’s Direct Lithium Extraction plant in Landau. This development strengthens Europe's raw material independence and supports the transition to green mobility.

The production milestone comes shortly after the commencement of operations at the Frankfurt plant in November 2024. Vulcan plans to use this LHM in qualification processes with partners like Stellantis, Renault, and LG. The integration of their sustainable upstream and downstream production processes aims to create a low-carbon, cost-efficient supply chain.
