Vossloh to Modernize Key Australian Rail Line

Vossloh AG is set to revitalize a crucial freight railway line in Australia by supplying concrete sleepers for the Maroona to Portland connection. This 170-kilometer line is vital for the export of grain and other goods from Victoria. Currently, the line faces restrictions, with the maximum axle load at 19 tons and speed capped at 40 km/h, compared to the usual 23 tons and 80 km/h, respectively.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) will replace degraded wooden sleepers with durable concrete ones, as part of a major upgrade. Vossloh has been contracted to produce and supply 250,000 concrete sleepers, with production starting in February, aiming for completion by August 2027. This project, funded with AUD 150 million, aims to enhance the line’s safety and efficiency.
