Verdict pronounced in the case of theft of precious metals at Aurubis AG
A judgment was rendered today by the Regional Court of Hamburg in the trial concerning the theft of precious metals within the company Aurubis. The main accused was sentenced to five years and ten months in prison, while a former Aurubis employee involved received a sentence of three years and six months. The other co-accused received sentences of up to four years. The judges also set the amount of damages for the harm suffered during the 2020 events at around 10 million euros.
Roland Harings, CEO of Aurubis, praised the resolute action of the prosecutor's office and the judiciary against organized crime. The sentences pronounced reflect the seriousness of the crimes and aim to deter future similar attempts. In response to these incidents, Aurubis has undertaken a comprehensive review and strengthened its prevention and security standards. The company also announced a significant investment in the security of precious metals recovery with the construction of a new secure area at its Hamburg plant.
