Tunnel Ostbahnhof consortium wins new contract in Munich
The Tunnel Ostbahnhof consortium, co-managed by Implenia and HOCHTIEF, has been selected to build the eastern section of the second main line of the Munich RER. This contract, valued at several hundred million euros, involves complex work scheduled to begin in June 2025 and be completed by May 2033.
This ambitious project involves the construction of tunnels, galleries, and associated infrastructure, while maintaining existing railway operations. The consortium is using BIM technology and Lean methods to optimize the construction process. This assignment builds on previous collaborations between Implenia and HOCHTIEF in Munich.
The second main line of the RER aims to relieve traffic on the current system by introducing an express RER, thus improving urban mobility for Munich's 840,000 daily passengers.
