Tosyalı Secures Contract for Germany’s Rhine Water Pipeline Project

Tosçelik Spiral Boru, a subsidiary of Tosyalı Holding, has been awarded the contract to supply steel pipes for the Rhine Water Pipeline (RWTL) project in Germany. This project, led by RWE, one of Germany’s principal energy companies, serves to transform disused opencast mines into lakes by transporting water from the Rhine River. Tosçelik will provide 130,000 tons of large-diameter pipes, stretching 105,600 meters, to facilitate this green transformation.

The contract, symbolizing a significant step in environmental sustainability, was formalized at RWE’s Paffendorf Castle in Cologne. This initiative reflects both companies’ commitment to the green transformation goals outlined in the EU Green Deal. Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of Tosyalı, highlighted the project's alignment with their sustainable investment strategy, emphasizing the production of green steel with a low carbon footprint.

Dr Lars Kulik of RWE Power emphasized the need for durable, high-quality pipes for the project, appreciating Tosyalı’s environmentally responsible manufacturing practices. This project, integral to RWE's strategy, will repurpose old mine areas and stabilize the regional groundwater levels, transforming them into recreational lakes.

By 2030, RWE aims to cease operations at coal-fired power plants and convert the mines into natural habitats. This project accommodating Tosyalı’s green steel will not only aid in the ecological restoration but also support biodiversity and water management in the region.
