Global Mayors Dialogue Highlights Urban Renewal Strategies
From October 22 to 25, the city of Zhengzhou hosted the Global Mayors Dialogue and 2025 International Mayor's Forum on Tourism. The event focused on the integration of cultural heritage preservation with urban development. Approximately 300 guests from various countries, including Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, and New Zealand attended.
Zhengzhou is pioneering a "archaeology first, construction later" policy. This aims to protect cultural relics amid urban growth. Notable projects like the Zhengzhou Shang City Archaeological Site Park and Fuminli cultural block demonstrate this approach.
International participants praised Zhengzhou’s efforts. Italy’s Maurizio Rasero highlighted similar strategies in Asti. Juan de Dios Perez Garcia from Spain emphasized "proactive protection" in blending modern elements with historical districts. Tania Arihia Tapsell of New Zealand noted technology’s role in promoting cultural continuity and economic development.
