Taiwan Rejects Sale of Foodpanda Business to Uber

The Taiwan Fair Trade Commission (TFTC) has declined approval for the sale of Delivery Hero's foodpanda Taiwan operations to Uber Technologies. Originally announced on May 14, 2024, the transaction involved the sale of DH Stores (Taiwan) Co., Ltd. and Foodpanda Taiwan Co., Ltd. The deal was contingent upon regulatory approvals, including merger control by the TFTC.

As of December 25, 2024, Delivery Hero confirmed the TFTC's decision, which leaves both companies facing uncertainty regarding the transaction's future. Uber may choose to appeal the ruling or terminate the sale. The parties have established deal protections, including break fee arrangements, to mitigate financial impact.
