Synnovis Achieves Milestone with 2,000 Revolutionary Cancer Tests

SYNLAB has announced that Synnovis has performed 2,000 revolutionary circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) tests for NHS lung and breast cancer patients. This testing method, also known as ‘liquid biopsy’, identifies cancer-related changes through a simple blood test. Initially introduced for lung cancer in 2025, ctDNA tests have proven essential for timely and personalized cancer care.

The process aids in delivering treatment tailored to the genetic profile of tumors, significantly impacting patient outcomes. Currently, Synnovis processes 75% of referrals for lung cancer and the remainder for breast cancer. A newly included test for Cancer of Unknown Primary further broadens its scope, allowing metastatic cancer patients access to precision treatment.

This innovation, which reduces reliance on invasive procedures, is expected to benefit 15,000 lung and 5,000 breast cancer patients annually. Additionally, ctDNA testing delivers net savings of £11 million for the NHS. NHS England's efforts continue to expand rapidly, integrating precision oncology into routine cancer care.
