Stillwater Critical Minerals and Berkeley Lab Collaborate on Geologic Hydrogen Production
Vancouver-based Stillwater Critical Minerals Corp. (TSXV:PGE) has announced a collaboration with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, for hydrogen production at the Stillwater West project in Montana. The $2 million project, led by Dr. Mengsu Hu, focuses on developing technologies for safe, economic geologic hydrogen extraction.
The Cyclic Injection for Commercial Seismic-Safe Geologic H2 Production (CyclicGeoH2) project uses advanced fracture control and serpentinization reactions. Rock samples from the Stillwater Igneous Complex will be crucial in testing this technology. Hydrogen's potential as a clean energy source boosts its viability.
Michael Rowley, CEO of Stillwater, expressed enthusiasm about the project's selection, emphasizing its importance for generating domestic critical minerals and clean energy. Dr. Hu and Dr. Carl Steefel of Berkeley Lab highlighted the geological conditions of the Stillwater Complex as ideal for hydrogen generation.
