South Star Battery Metals Corp. Initiates PEA for BamaStar Graphite Project in Alabama

South Star Battery Metals Corp. has recently undertaken the Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) for its BamaStar Graphite Project in Coosa County, Alabama. This marks a significant phase in the project, aiming to acquire a 75% interest in the mine's legal and beneficial minerals and mining rights. The PEA will reflect on the 2023 drilling program and provide a techno-economic analysis focusing on battery and specialty graphite product manufacturing in the southeastern USA.

The company has engaged with senior economic-development representatives across several states, including Alabama and Louisiana, to identify an optimal location for its downstream processing plant. This plant will produce coated spherical purified graphite for Li-ion batteries and products enhancing battery conductivity.

Richard Pearce, CEO, highlighted the strategic importance of this PEA in positioning South Star as a key player in the critical EV, defense, and energy storage sectors in the U.S. amidst growing geopolitical and supply-chain concerns for critical metals. Moreover, ongoing tests on Santa Cruz graphite concentrates aim to optimize them for battery applications, showcasing the high purity of the material.

Set to complete by July 2024, the assessment is co-led by Dorfner ANZAPLAN GmbH and Lycopodium Limited, promising to pave the way for a vertically integrated graphite supply chain in the Americas.
