Saint James School of Medicine Launches New Health Sciences Program with UNDP Grant

Saint James School of Medicine (SJSM) has been awarded a $30,000 grant by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to introduce a Bachelor's-level program in Health Sciences in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This new initiative aims to enhance the quality and scope of higher education in the Caribbean region, preparing students for careers in healthcare and advancing medical degrees.

The program is designed to provide a comprehensive education in health sciences, with a strong emphasis on practical skills, research, and community health. This development is expected to play a critical role in medical education within the Caribbean, equipping students to tackle global health challenges effectively.

Expressing appreciation for the UNDP's support, SJSM's Executive Vice President, Kaushik Guha, highlighted the program's potential to broaden the institution's academic offerings and contribute significantly to improving healthcare professionals' training. The initiative was conceptualized with insights from St. Vincent and the Grenadines' Minister of Education, Honourable Curtis King, showcasing a collaborative effort to foster educational growth.

The funding from the UNDP will also be used to enhance SJSM’s infrastructure, facilitating the creation of modern educational facilities and supporting community health projects that offer real-world experiences to students.
