Radiant Industries, Inc. Completes Conceptual Design Review of Kaleidos Microreactor
Radiant Industries, Inc. has completed the Conceptual Design Review (CDR) of its portable Kaleidos microreactor. This achievement is a significant milestone towards authorization and fueled testing at Idaho National Laboratory (INL). Each Kaleidos unit aims to supply 1 MW of emission-free electricity over five years for critical remote operations.
The CDR is crucial in confirming that the design meets operational, safety, and environmental requirements. Conducted with a multidisciplinary team at INL, the review lays the groundwork for the microreactor's final design.
Radiant CEO Doug Bernauer remarked, "Completing the CDR is a major step towards fueled testing and commercial deployment of Kaleidos. This brings us closer to introducing the first new reactor design in over 50 years."
Brad Tomer, acting director at INL’s National Reactor Innovation Center, expressed, "The CDR's completion allows Radiant to advance toward testing Kaleidos in our DOME facility. Our collaboration with private companies aims to develop advanced nuclear technologies for clean energy solutions."
Radiant utilized industry standards and proven technologies for the review, with key personnel conducting analysis and testing in El Segundo, CA, and collaborating with industry experts.
