Part-Time Work Driven by Desire for Leisure, Says Study
A recent study by The Stepstone Group indicates that 46% of part-time workers choose this option to enjoy more leisure time. Conducted among 5,800 employees, the study reveals personal time is the primary motivator for part-time employment. Additionally, 20% point to inadequate childcare or caregiving needs as barriers to full-time work. Health reasons prevent 17% from seeking full-time jobs.
The study highlights significant gender disparities. Nearly one-fourth of women cite limited care options as a reason for part-time work, compared to just 9% of men. Conversely, men more often report that job requirements prevent part-time options.
The economic impact of childcare shortages is substantial, potentially costing the economy 23 billion euros annually. Addressing these issues could unlock significant economic growth. The study emphasizes that supporting women's career advancement and improving childcare could significantly enhance productivity and economic well-being.
