North Reading Tops Massachusetts Elementary Science Rankings

Fifth-grade students from North Reading Public School District in Massachusetts have achieved the highest science test scores in the state, according to the 2024 Massachusetts Common Assessment Program for Science (MCAS). This places the district first in a state renowned for its superior public education system. The success is attributed to a partnership with KnowAtom, a provider of NGSS-based curricula.

North Reading students engage in a hands-on, phenomenon-based science curriculum, encouraging them to think like scientists and engineers. J. Turner Hood School led the district with 91% of students meeting or exceeding state proficiency levels. Across the district, 87% reached or surpassed expectations, outpacing the statewide average of 44%.

Superintendent Dr. Patrick Daly praises the district's commitment to science education, supported by quality instructional materials and community involvement. The district's scores improved by 5 points over the previous year. CEO Francis Vigeant of KnowAtom commended the district's exemplary science education efforts.
