Aurubis Richmond Inaugurates First US Multimetal Recycling Plant

Aurubis AG has launched its new recycling plant in Richmond, Georgia, marking a significant step in multimetal recycling within the US. The facility aims to recover strategic metals like copper, nickel, tin, and precious metals essential for the US energy infrastructure, technology, and defense sectors. This move strengthens Western supply chains and enhances US self-sufficiency in metal resources.

The US currently imports approximately half of its copper needs, amounting to 1.8 million tons annually. Aurubis Richmond, equipped with advanced recycling technology, addresses this gap by processing up to 180,000 tons of recycling material each year. This development promises to improve the American manufacturing landscape and sustain local raw material supply.

The plant represents a $800 million investment and brings over 240 jobs to Georgia, supporting local economic growth. High-profile political and business figures celebrated the inauguration, highlighting Aurubis's role in bolstering America's industrial and economic resilience.
