Pioneering Project: Nexans and Swissgrid in the Gotthard Tunnel
Nexans, in partnership with Swissgrid, will install an 18 km underground high-voltage line in the Gotthard motorway tunnel in Switzerland. This project, scheduled for completion between 2028 and 2030, represents a European first for the installation of cables in a road tunnel. This initiative aims to replace the existing overhead line, thus contributing to better landscape preservation.
With a budget of €50 million, this is Nexans Switzerland's largest contract. The installation of this 220 kV high-voltage line is crucial for north-south electricity transmission in Switzerland. Nexans will supply 57 km of cables from its bases in Belgium and Switzerland. This project is part of a global strategy of innovation and environmental protection.
