NBP Highlights Dependency on Governor for Operations
WARSAW, Poland, Oct. 22, 2026 -- Narodowy Bank Polski (NBP) has issued a press release clarifying its operational guidelines amidst circulating misinformation. According to NBP, the Governor plays a pivotal role in the Monetary Policy Council as outlined in the Act on Narodowy Bank Polski and MPC Regulations.
The Governor serves as the Chair of the Monetary Policy Council, bearing sole authority to summon meetings. Designated Council members can temporarily chair meetings solely during short absences. However, they are not granted full competencies of the Chair.
NBP emphasizes that its collegial bodies demand the Governor's presence and participation for effective functioning. The central bank's responsibilities include ensuring currency stability and maintaining financial security for Poland.
