Mars Launches Pet Adoption Resource Hub to Address Adoption Barriers

Mars, Incorporated has unveiled a new online Adoption Hub following a global study indicating that uncertainties surrounding pets' health and compatibility discouraged many potential adopters. Almost a third of pet parents expressed interest in adoption but hesitated due to concerns about animals' backgrounds. The newly launched platform aims to provide comprehensive guidance to ease the adoption process.

The research, involving 26,000 participants across 14 countries, highlighted that prospective adopters often worry about unknown medical histories and behavioral issues. Mars plans to expand its 2026 Global Adoption Weekend to over 30 countries, aiding local shelters in the adoption process.

Esther Bijsmans from Mars Pet Nutrition emphasized the importance of the 3-3-3 rule and gradual diet changes for new pets. The Mars Adoption Hub offers resources from the Waltham Petcare Science Institute to support this transition. Anthony Guerrieri of Mars noted the goal of removing uncertainties from the adoption journey and providing effective support for both shelters and new pet parents.
