Supported by the U.S. Department of Defense, this new technology harnesses decay energy from radioisotopes, achieving approximately 62% efficiency. This breakthrough suggests a promising future for next-generation radioisotope power sources.

The innovative design includes a coin-cell package in a metal case, ensuring no radioisotope leakage. The technology uses electrochemical energy conversion from dissolved radioisotopes, differing from conventional solid-state semiconductor junctions. This method creates a more effective channel for electron collection, leading to high conversion efficiency.

This advancement addresses the need for continuous operation in various modern systems, such as robots and medical devices, by providing a long-lasting power source.
