Hannover Re Announces Executive Board Changes: Welcoming Thorsten Steinmann and Bidding Farewell to Michael Pickel

Hannover Rück SE and its subsidiary, E+S Rückversicherung AG, have appointed Thorsten Steinmann as a member of their Executive Boards, starting 1 September 2024. Steinmann, coming from Swiss Re, steps into his role to replace Michael Pickel, who retires on 31 December 2024 after a 25-year tenure. Steinmann's broad experience in the reinsurance sector across various European markets positions him as an adept successor to lead the company’s German business and manage responsibilities in other European regions.

With a 30-year career in the insurance and reinsurance industry, Steinmann’s recent role involved overseeing reinsurance business for Swiss Re in a range of European countries. Michael Pickel, on the other hand, has significantly contributed to Hannover Re's growth since 2000, holding various roles across diverse geographical territories, including his recent title as CEO of E+S Rück since 2019.

The transition marks a pivotal moment for Hannover Re, as it continues to uphold its place as a world-leading reinsurer. The company’s dedication to providing innovative risk solutions and maintaining strong financial health is underscored by its superior ratings from major agencies.
