Study Highlights Increasing Diversity Among European Investors

Recent research by flatexDEGIRO indicates significant shifts in European investment patterns. The study found that the number of accounts held by women increased by 20% in 2024, though they remain underrepresented at 19% of the customer base. Young investors aged 18 to 24 grew by 31%, highlighting an emerging market trend.

The analysis, based on data from over 3 million customers across 16 countries, also reveals that equities make up 55% of portfolios, but ETFs are gaining traction, particularly among younger demographics. Technology, healthcare, and industrial goods sectors continue to dominate investments.

Regional variances show a preference for individual shares in the majority of markets, with technology stocks favored across all regions. This diversification is seen as a positive sign for Europe's investment future, according to CEO Oliver Behrens.
