Federal Agents Adopt New Tech to Combat Sex Offenders

A recent study published in the Journal of Child Sexual Abuse revealed that the Computer Voice Stress Analyzer® (CVSA®) technology is 98% accurate in detecting lies during interviews concerning child sexual abuse. NITV Federal Services, the manufacturer, mentioned that a previous study published in 2012 found a 96% accuracy rate.

This technology is now employed by over 3,000 law enforcement agencies. The Federal Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Forces utilize the CVSA® to verify the truthfulness of suspects' statements. The device, comprising a laptop and a clip-on microphone, determines when suspects are lying by analyzing their voice stress levels.

According to the study's authors, 100% of stressed-indicated examinations resulted in disclosures of victims and sex crimes, identifying 87 previously undiscovered live victims. The difference between offenders being caught without live victim admissions and those with admissions can result in significantly longer prison sentences.
