ENGIE Expands Africa's Largest Wind Farm in Egypt

ENGIE has announced the expansion of its Red Sea Wind Energy wind farm in Ras Ghareb, Egypt, from 500 MW to 650 MW. The farm's entire production has been purchased by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) for 25 years. ENGIE is nearing 1 GW of renewable capacity in Egypt, solidifying its role in the renewable energy sector in Africa and the Middle East.
The expansion is developed with Orascom Construction, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and Eurus Energy Holdings. The financial close for the 150 MW expansion has been achieved in collaboration with key banking partners. ENGIE holds 35% of the consortium, leading the project’s management and technical efforts. The first 306 MW phase is operational, with full commissioning expected by the third quarter of 2025.
Once operational, the wind farm will contribute significantly to Egypt's aim of 42% renewable electricity by 2030. The farm, providing power to over 1 million homes, will also help reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 1.3 million tons annually.
