Energiekontor AG Commences Repowering and Construction of Oederquart Wind Park Project

Energiekontor AG, a prominent German developer and operator of wind and solar parks, announced the start of construction and the partial sale of the repowering project in Oederquart, located in the district of Stade, Lower Saxony. Having received the construction permit in summer 2023 and completed the financial arrangements, the project is now fully launched with the replacement of old wind turbines planned.

The Oederquart project will feature an upgrade from ten older turbines, each with 1.5 MW capacity, to six newer and more efficient turbines capable of approximately 5.6 MW each. This upgrade significantly increases the park’s capacity to about 33 MW. The new turbines are expected to produce over 85 million kWh annually, sufficient to power approximately 26,000 households and save around 65,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

CEO Peter Szabo highlighted the importance of repowering for meeting Germany's 2030 energy targets and leveraging existing sites for optimized project development, even amidst economic challenges. Energiekontor, which initially developed the Oederquart wind park around 25 years ago, intends to keep three of the new turbines in its portfolio, enhancing its overall capacity by about 17 MW.
