Digitunity Partners with New Mexico to Bridge Digital Divide

Digitunity, a national nonprofit, has collaborated with the New Mexico State Office of Broadband Access and Expansion (OBAE) to furnish donated computers to individuals and families in need. This initiative launched in Ruidoso, New Mexico, primarily targets residents affected by recent wildfires and flooding. Through this campaign, technology donors, both individual and corporate, link with local organizations to distribute computers to applicants.

The partnership aims to expand computer access to underserved communities. Digitunity Executive Director Scot Henley highlights the importance of digital access for education, telehealth, and employment. Before distribution, donated computers undergo refurbishment to ensure functionality.

Jennifer Nevarez from OBAE stresses that broadband is essential, not a luxury, and this collaboration addresses barriers to digital participation. Looking ahead, Digitunity is working with the U.S. General Services Administration to implement the Computers for Veterans and Students Act of 2022, set for a 2026 launch, further boosting affordable technology access.
