Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), a part of Cubic Corporation, has recently launched the Umo Handheld Reader. This new device pairs CTS's software with Samsung's hardware to streamline electronic fare collection across public transportation methods such as buses and trains.

The introduction of the Umo Handheld Reader to the Umo platform aims to enhance the public transportation experience by making fare payment more accessible, convenient, and enjoyable. Mike Barboni, Chief Product Officer for the Umo platform, emphasized the device's role in advancing fare collection technology. It offers an affordable, convenient solution for transit agencies, reducing the need for heavy hardware installations.

Todd Maxwell of Samsung Electronics America highlighted the collaboration with Cubic, noting the combination of the Umo platform and the rugged Samsung XCover6 Pro as optimal for increasing operational efficiency in transit with mobile technology. The Umo Handheld Reader is described as particularly beneficial for smaller transit operations, offering easy integration and expansion capabilities, supported by the fast 5G LTE connectivity for rapid data transfers.
