Commerzbank Delivers Strong Financial Performance in Q1 2024

Commerzbank has reported a significant increase in its financial results for the first quarter of 2024, marking its best quarterly net result in over a decade. The German bank's operating result rose by 24% to €1.1 billion, while its net profit surged by about 29% to €747 million compared to Q1 2023. This growth has been attributed to robust customer business and favorable conditions in interest rates.

Revenues also saw an uplift, increasing to €2.75 billion from €2.67 billion in the same quarter last year, driven by strong performances across both corporate clients and private and small-business segments. The bank's successful cost management strategies led to a reduction in total costs to €1.6 billion and an improved cost-income ratio of 58%, down from 65% in Q1 2023.

The bank’s CET1 ratio, an indicator of financial stability, rose to 14.9%. Furthermore, Commerzbank confirmed a targeted payout ratio of at least 70% for 2024, following a profitable 2023 which saw significant distributions to shareholders via dividends and share buybacks.

Amid these financial achievements, Commerzbank also completed several strategic initiatives, including the roll-out of its joint venture Commerz Globalpay GmbH, highlighting ongoing advancements in its digital payment solutions.
