Carsten Schmitt Appointed as New CFO of Commerzbank

Commerzbank's Supervisory Board has appointed Carsten Schmitt as the new Chief Financial Officer, succeeding Bettina Orlopp. Orlopp has held the CFO position since March 2020 and will continue her role as CEO. The transition is expected to complete by spring 2025, pending regulatory approvals.

Schmitt returns to Commerzbank from Danske Bank, where he was Executive Vice President of Group Strategy and M&A. He had previously dedicated over 20 years to Commerzbank, most recently heading the Group Finance segment until 2021.

Jens Weidmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, highlighted Schmitt’s deep familiarity with the bank and his financial industry expertise. CEO Bettina Orlopp expressed anticipation in collaborating with Schmitt once more and acknowledged his strategic value for Commerzbank's future endeavors.
