Call2Recycle & EVSX Launch Ontario's Newest Battery Processing Facility
St-Georges Eco-Mining Corp. and Call2Recycle Canada have announced the operational launch of EVSX's new battery processing plant in Thorold, Ontario. This state-of-the-art facility will handle increasing volumes of alkaline and carbon zinc batteries collected through Call2Recycle's program.
Located at the Bioveld Complex in Niagara, the new facility has a processing capacity of 4,200 tons of alkaline batteries per year with an 87.7% recycling efficiency rate, the highest in Canada. The plant will also transform black mass into agricultural fertilizer products through a collaboration with St-Georges Metallurgy.
The facility will support the growing volume of batteries recycled by Canadians, with Ontario contributing approximately 40% of national collections. The investment in Thorold is part of EVSX's strategy to achieve 100% recovery of all battery components.
Since 1997, Call2Recycle has collected and recycled nearly 50 million kilograms of batteries in Canada. The new plant follows a 2022 agreement to establish a full battery recycling ecosystem in Ontario.
This facility reduces transportation needs and emissions and supports regional job growth and Ontario's circular economy. It also provides convenient recycling solutions for Canadians, contributing to a stronger national circular economy.
