Caitlin Clark Wins 94th AAU Sullivan Award, Makes History

Caitlin Clark, the University of Iowa basketball alum and number one WNBA draft pick, has secured the 94th AAU James E. Sullivan Award. This victory marks her as the first athlete to win the award in two consecutive years in its 94-year history. Clark previously won the 93rd edition of the award.

The award ceremony took place at the New York Athletic Club, where Clark’s high school coach, Kristin Meyer, represented her on stage. The AAU Sullivan Award, initiated in 1930 by the Amateur Athletic Union, annually honors an outstanding athlete from college or Olympic sports in the United States, celebrating not only athletic excellence but also leadership, character, and sportsmanship.

Clark expressed gratitude towards the finalists and voters, acknowledging the inspirational legacy of past winners. After a public vote combined with evaluations from the AAU Sullivan Award Committee and other bodies, Clark was declared the winner. She now joins WNBA's Indiana Fever and holds the title of the NCAA basketball all-time leading scorer.

AAU President Jo Mirza highlighted Clark’s unprecedented achievement and her role as a shining example in women's sports. This year’s finalists included notable athletes across various disciplines such as wrestling, speed skating, gymnastics, volleyball, and swimming.
