Breakthrough Technology Proves Rapid Relief of Depression With Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation
MINERAL WELLS, TX / ACCESSWIRE / August 28, 2024 / Depression, affecting millions globally, may soon be treatable with a new non-invasive brain stimulation technology. Researchers from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, in collaboration with Electromedical Products International, Inc. (EPI), have achieved a major breakthrough, effectively treating depression in only five daily sessions.
An initial clinical trial, published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, showed a significant reduction in symptoms for those with major depressive disorder. Notably, 80% of patients were symptom-free two weeks post-treatment.
The technology delivers personalized brain stimulation based on real-time brain activity measurements, targeting a specific disrupted electric pattern. This successful modulation correlates strongly with symptom reduction.
Dr. Flavio Frohlich from UNC described the results as "stunning" and potentially game-changing for depression treatment. EPI's device adjusts the electric waveform delivered to the patient during each session, effectively engaging in a dialogue with the brain.
The promising results have led EPI to plan a double-blind, placebo-controlled study. Chief Science Officer Dr. Leah Townsend and President Brian Burke expressed their enthusiasm and commitment to advancing this innovative technology.
