Bio-Gate AG Reveals Promising Data on HyProtect™ Implants for Femur Fractures

Bio-Gate AG has announced the results of a clinical study comparing HyProtect™-coated implants with uncoated ones in treating infected, non-healed femur fractures. The study, published in the journal Injury, shows a 100% success rate in the HyProtect™ group versus 61% in the control group after twelve months. This study marks the first comparative clinical assessment of HyProtect™, expanding on prior case reports and animal studies.

The coated group not only demonstrated enhanced treatment success but also a 31% reduction in inpatient treatment costs compared to the control group. Despite more complex initial conditions, the HyProtect™ group reported significant improvements without recurrent infections or pseudarthrosis within the review period.

HyProtect™ utilizes a silver-polysiloxane coating aimed at reducing bacterial growth on medical implants, promising significant clinical benefits in trauma care. These findings emphasize the technology's potential economic and healthcare implications, as well as its effectiveness in challenging fracture cases.
