Astreas Delivers Chocolate Spheres to International Space Station

San Francisco-based start-up Astreas, known for its focus on functional food designed for astronauts and elite performers, has marked a significant milestone by delivering its chocolate spheres to the International Space Station (ISS). This delivery was part of the SpaceX Crew-8 mission launched on March 4, 2024. The chocolate spheres are aimed at enhancing the cognitive and physical performance of astronauts during their missions.

The company collaborated with the International Institute for Astronautical Sciences and previously conducted tests with Kellie Gerardi on a Virgin Galactic flight in November 2023. Astreas' goal is to support future space missions, including potential moon and Mars expeditions, by developing nutritional products tailored to the extreme conditions of space.

Astreas CEO Shahreen Reza expressed enthusiasm about the feedback from various high-performers ranging from astronauts to competitive athletes. Reza also highlighted upcoming plans to distribute these chocolate spheres across high-performance centers in the United States to benefit more individuals in performance-critical roles.

RPM Power's CEO, Rory McLoughney, an early investor in Astreas, praised the company's progress in creating health-boosting food products for astronauts and athletes alike, emphasizing the impact of these innovations on the well-being of high performers globally. Former NASA astronaut and Astreas COO, Scott Parazynski, noted the product's energy-boosting qualities, contrasting it favorably with traditional high-caffeine drinks.
