$2.4 Billion RioSol Transmission Project to Benefit New Mexico and Arizona

Southwestern Power Group (SWPG) is developing the RioSol Transmission Line, a 557-mile High Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) transmission line through New Mexico and Arizona. According to Energy Economic & Environmental Consultants, RioSol will create 2,626 jobs and enable renewable energy projects.

The project will generate $1.17 billion in economic activity. Eleven substations will deliver 1,600 MW of renewable energy. Construction starts in 2026 and ends in 2028, having secured all major permits and rights of way. RioSol represents a $2.4 billion private capital investment, with $244 million in pre-construction costs expected by 2025.

The economic benefits include $667 million in New Mexico and $506 million in Arizona, totaling $1 billion during construction and over $3 billion during the project's lifespan. Operations and maintenance expenditures will contribute nearly $12.3 million per year.

RioSol will enhance renewable energy infrastructure in New Mexico, facilitating the development of local wind and solar resources, and in Arizona, distributing solar energy statewide.
